What do you love most about being a lawyer?
I love a lot of things about being an attorney. We have a great group of attorneys who bounce ideas off of each other, and I think the collective whole makes my work better on a daily basis. I do love the fact that at the end of the day what I do is helping others, which is very meaningful for me.
People often come to see me when they're having a problem or something bad has happened to them, and to explain issues that are complex and help them get through a difficult time is very meaningful. I also love that each day brings me something new and my practice is very varied. I may be helping someone who has been injured in an automobile accident know what types of coverages are available and help them obtain necessary funds to recover. I also work on the opposite side in dealing with insurance carriers defending the claims, and I think that experience on both sides of the aisle makes me more effective in evaluating those claims.
I do a lot of work in vaccine litigation, which is a very rewarding area of the law, it's complex, with understanding how vaccines operate in the body, and it has been a natural progression for me from working in medical malpractice and personal injury, and it has been a really rewarding area to practice in with my colleague here, Kathleen Loucks. Finally, trust in estate litigation is such a unique area of the law and that you are dealing with a lot of family dynamics and oftentimes family dynamics in terms of loss of a loved one, and I enjoy assisting family members and trying to be the calm, reasoned voice in working through these often difficult disputes.
