What do you do if you’re in an accident?

I have significant experience representing those who are injured in a motor vehicle accident through no fault of their own, and I would encourage an individual if they or one of their family members has been injured to call our office. We can talk about various levels of insurance coverage that are available. First, in the state of Minnesota, one should know that we are a no-fault state. So if you are injured and you do need to go to the hospital right away from the scene of the accident, it is your motor vehicle insurance that kicks in for your medical care. Usually the minimum amount of coverage that you have under your auto insurance is $20,000 of benefits available to you. The unique thing about that coverage is you can go for medical care wherever you want. You don't have to go to an in-network provider.

You also have under your no-fault insurance, $20,000 of wage loss or replacement services. Replacement services could be for if you are injured and can no longer shovel the snow in your driveway or mow your lawn. I would encourage you to contact our office so that we can assist you in obtaining those benefits, making sure you get all the benefits under your policy, and communicating with your no-fault insurance carrier. Also, if you are injured through no fault of your own, there is the potential for insurance coverage available to you in terms of pain and suffering damage from the liability insurance carrier, the insurance on the vehicle that caused the accident. So if you are injured significantly, it is important to have someone assist you with this.

These types of claims, we would have you come in for an initial no charge consultation to talk about your injuries, to talk about what happened in the accident, to collect information and authorizations, to obtain the accident report, to monitor your medical care, your medical bills, all the insurance carriers to take over communication with these insurance carriers on your behalf. Then what we do is we monitor you with your medical care and your healing. You do not want to make a claim for damages in these types of cases too soon until you know you've reached your maximum medical improvement. These types of claims, once you make a claim for money, it's one and done. So you definitely don't want to make a claim too soon, and we certainly can assist you with that and are happy to do so.
